High resolution ultrasound of ligaments around the ankle and the midfoot
Abstract:
Ligament injuries around the ankle and mid foot are among the most common sporting injuries. In ankle sprains, ultrasound is an excellent alternative to MR imaging to diagnose ligament injuries that affect this body area. Among ankle ligaments, very high-frequency transducers have recently enabled ultrasound to depict exquisite details of some well-known structures and to reveal difficult-to-scan fascicles (e.g. the posterior talofibular and posteroinferior tibiofibular ligaments) in areas of poor accessibility.
